We do not want people to feel they should not criticize EIZ or EIZ LTD.

Our aim is to get the best ideas out there, so please do not restrict yourself in criticizing EIZ publicly or in any sessions, if you are expressing what you believe to be true.
Being open to critical feedback is not only about improving quality in education and in any organization.
Pupils often only give positive feedback because they are polite.
We seek to measure the effectiveness of lessons through various means. For example, we often use short tests before and after lessons to compare scores. This helps us to see whether scores have improved, so we understand whether the lessons have been effective. My English teaching qualification (CELTA) is only for teaching adults, so I only teach adults. Teaching people younger is too much responsibility for a start-up and I do not have the start-up capital to accept responsibility for anyone other than adults.
Hearing that a lesson was good will not help us. You should tell us what you didn’t like before telling us what you did like. We can always get better!

At university, I was very lucky to benefit from the tutorial system. Anyone who studies a subject at Oxford will remember having to sit down and write their own essay every week. Then, at the tutorial, they will have to sit in a room for over an hour with a professor and one other student, their tutorial partner. Not only will they have to defend the essay they have written. They will also have to answer questions from the professor about the academic material they were supposed to have read.
After one tutorial, one of the students at university with me said to me, “David, if you have nothing useful to say, just shut up!”
My tutorial partner was right to say this.
Rather than reading through all the academic articles I had been given, I spent much of my time at university trying to be elected President of the Oxford Union. In my last year, I finally succeeded. Speaking in the Oxford Union debating chamber was even more challenging than tutorials. It taught you to have the confidence to speak in a room of over 400 people, answering ‘points of information’. This meant that I was trained to talk about a subject, even when I was not fully prepared. While you might pity the people who had to listen to me, it was a skill that would help me later in my career in professions such as management consulting.
You should be as brutal with me as that Oxford student described above.
